Handsome, charming, heartthrob of millions of gals Gurmeet Choudhary is undoubtedly one among the successful TV actors. He gracefully portrayed Ram in Sagar Arts ‘Ramayan’. Later he was seen as a macho man Maan in 'Geet Hui Sabse Parayi'. Be it Drashti Dhami or Debina Bonnerjee, his chemistry with both of them set fires on screen.
In an exclusive interview with Scrutiny, he speaks about Geet-2, his upcoming movie and show:
How is your life after Geet Hui Sabse Parayi?
When I was doing Geet, we used to shoot round the clock so I didn’t get time for myself. I became a free bird after Geet, slept a lot and enjoyed the food. I got pretty more time for the gym and for my near and dear ones. Now I’m back on my toes with a new show.
What was the reason for you to take up 'Punar Vivaah'?
Like I have done Ramayan and then Geet, both the characters are different. I wanted to take the character that should be as good as or even better than them. I selected ‘Punar Vivaah’ because it is diverse as a whole, Yash’s character is challenging and exciting and also something that I had not done before. I believe there is no point repeating oneself.
Are you open to do another show with Drashti?
Not really. I think the magic of Maan and Geet should remain as it is and not spoil with any different character. I want to concentrate on my new show. But I can just give it a thought if a good script comes my way.
‘Geet Hui Sabse Parayi’ was getting good ratings and it ended abruptly before time.
I believe that all good things have to come to an end. I don’t think the show ended before time. Two year is good enough time span for Geet to finish its story.
Is Geet Hui Sabse Parayi-2 in pipe line?
No, Geet-2 would be over stretching like a chewing gum.
Fans are demanding to cast you opposite Drashti. Don't you think if you come again with Drashti, then your hit jodi will be a type cast?
I am happy because fans still love the onscreen chemistry between Geet and Maan. I want to explore myself as an actor by adorning different characters. Repeating the jodi only brings back the previous character in mind, which is not healthy for the next project. The pairing and character sketch should be fresh.
If given an opportunity to cast an actress for yourself besides Drashti and Debina who would it be? Who will be your first choice?
Since I don’t know anyone I can't name any.
You have affection for camera, so are you intend to pursue direction or open your own production house later in life?
I want to, but I don’t think it’s the right time now.
Tell us a bit about your Punjabi movie 'Yaar Mera Rab Warga'?
You need to see my Punjabi film to enjoy it. It’s my first movie and my first stint on big screen. The character is very interesting; I am playing an NRI singer. Rest is for you to see. I can't reveal anything much right now, but it's surely something to look forward to.
Any future plan if not acting?
Right from my childhood days I would say standing up in my school that I want to become an actor. I don’t know what would I have been if not an actor. So I want to continue acting only in the future.
Any message for GurTi(Gurmeet+Drashti) fans, they are dying to see you back in Geet Hui Sabse Parayi-2?
People who have seen me as Ram in Ramayan have followed me in Geet... They liked and loved Maan Singh Khurana. I would expect my fans to see and keep enjoying my work. I would never ever disappoint my fans and will always try to entertain them with a variety of work.
Geet-2 is not in making. I personally believe that I should work on distinguish variety of characters and explore my horizon as an actor. History cannot repeat itself.

How is your life after Geet Hui Sabse Parayi?

geet 2 won't be chewing gum mr gurmeet chaudhary as story will be afresh not the continuing one. i came to know u only after geet happened , maan charcacter gave u massive fan following from all age groups as it was a love story and had a social message in it, a character remains in the minds of fans for ever as it is the character that connects with the viewers and not his personal doings. maaneet are eternal couple and any story picturised on them can do wonders.fans are longing to watch the story again in form of maaneet or any character name. little hurt by the bitter truth.

I want gc and dd work together in abother show ,even though they make geet #2 it won't have same effect.
Iam not happy with gc choice of show, because i can't see gc with kids and also new co star is not that intresting.
pls stop insulting gc by saying his education is low, having a BA or PHD dos't make a person smart and wise.

ReplyDeleteGurmeet u may have thought that GHSP SSN 2 is the continuation of the same story of ssn 1 but its not, when we are talking about ssn 2 that means a new story only with the same lead and same name... whatever I can understand that you must do a new show... but personally me a GURTI fan so want to see you and Drashti pairing again in a new show... I loved one line here where you said you will come back with Drashti if you get a good script... I will be waiting for it... hope that day come soon ... SAYANEE

He just realised he CHEATED a whole lot of viewers and fears that sin has landed on his head for casting her as Sita! Calling Gurmeet "Gay" is not what your interview hoped to achieve right? Having warring fan groups refer to Drashti as "Dirty" too was not on agenda right? If the actors read up your blog's comments, they are not likely to give you an interview ever again! That said, the interview's fine, but Gurmeet would have obviously spoken in Hindi and the way you rtanslated and framed them in English has obviously affected the essence and purport of Gurmeet's statements, much to his disadvantage, and what could have been a gerat publicity exercise for him on the online platform has actually turned into the reverse as you'd have gauged by now. Sad for him. That's all I can say. Expect better understanding on the entire online situation from your end the next time, if you really care for your subjects beyond a journalistic pov. Regards.

GHSP season 2 does not necessarily mean continuation of same story...well, we are ready to wait for season 2 or a new show with Gurti in it...even to this day, I would love to see another SRK-Kajol movie..same applies here too..as of now good luck to Gurti for all their venture...I AM WAITING FOR THEM TO COME BACK WITH A BANG.

ReplyDeletei don't know how much of the essense of what gurmeet has said in the interview has been lost or tampered with during the translation from hindi to english... but i agree with what is said in this interview... the answers were quite practical... gurmeet is a talented actor who's always taken up different kinds of roles... and he's excelled in all of them... experimenting with roles without worrying about his previous on screen image is a sign of a mature and professional actor... this experimentation may or may not work... but that should never stop him from trying new genres and roles even in the future... i wish him all the best... i hope this show gives him plenty of scope to perform and grow as an actor... it may not reach the madness of a Geet... but it will certainly give him a different set of audience which will be a good change for him...

ReplyDeleteyou are absolutly right, but they are doing themselves and why they are expose their personal life in front of ppls. i have proof of that, GC and DB done all style of Geet serials sigment and publish by SBB.. for ex..you see 3rd nov 2011 SBB sigment..we don't know what purpose they done it? you will realise.. I had seen some photoes of that pair (GC and DB) posed like geet sigment..on computer only but i had never posed that photo's and viedo's any where because I respect GC and DD both, and about this interview some answers are talanted, but some are ...for exmp GC is popular sirf and sirf geet kye vajase...or ye sach koi badal nahi sakata..he have to excpt it ....in past interviews he except also ...then why he is giving credit to ramayan now..

And GHSP broke all barriers of religion, border even language. 70% of GHSP viewers are Non Hindu coming from Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, UK,USA nd from places like Hong Kong, Australia nd Fiji. Even there r viewers who dont even understand the hindi language. So these fans don't make any difference to you. You dont need the unloyal fans of GHSP. All the best for your new project.

ReplyDeleteGurmeet is a hardworker and talented guy. Believe me, I have been following him since RAMAYAN. He does not require so called fans who cannot respect his decision. Even Drashti has given similar response to some interviews. And I as a fan respect their decision and will always admire their work, even if they don't work together.

I started watching GHSP because of its story & elegant style & then fell in love with Maan-Geet/Gurmeet-Drashti. The drop in the TRP’s is no surprise since the storywriters drifted away from the originality of the show, losing the unique style that had been portrayed. While it is important to have a great script it is equally important the leads can pull off the characters and in a romantic story the right chemistry can be the icing on the cake for a show.
ReplyDeleteI agree family drama (saas bahu type) seems to be the guide to achieving highest TRP’s on Indian television, however GHSP was a youth based show targeted at the younger demographic so naturally the audience range would vary and result in lower TRP’s then a traditional show.
PV is a traditional show appealing to a wider audience, on an established channel and with Gurmeet being a superb actor, there’s no doubt that the show will do well. I personally don’t find these type of shows interesting but will give it a try for GC :)

Gurmeet i always knew you were an actor with a difference and also knew that you would never repeat the same characterisation of Maan Singh Khurana again. I actually liked your answers though they seemed blunt at times. May be the Hindi to english Translation gave this tinge to it. All the best for your future endeavours and hope you achieve success in your career with a wide variety of characters to explore with your acting capabilities. All the best though MSK and MAANEET would always hold a special regard in my heart but will pray for you success in different kinds of roles you are portraying.

ReplyDeleteI also only knew of GC from GEET. While it is heart-breaking to know GC is not interested in GHSP2 at least I can now stop my futile efforts in trying to bring it back. PV is not my type of show but since GC has entwined me under his spell I may have to give it a chance!

3rd) one side he is telling no problem in working in season 2 in RM n sec after knowing season 2 fight for show from RM he is saying telling season 2 is like chewingum ( is it not rude thing)can easily say that I don't think season 2 will come soon or there is no chance of that or somthing but it was clearcut insult of fans who are fighting for show n the show which has given so much to him but some of Ramayan fans think he was more famouse in ramayan really need reality check just on TRP bases, gurti got Award by beating highest trp show couple ) while GC himslef is telling he himself telling got more famouse n got love n given so much to him in many inteview but still ramayan fans are right but how pata nahi ,he he he, leave some person can never change.
4th )one interview he told he will surly work with DD if script is good n he was telling n admiring DD with so much happiness, have that link too if you need proof, here he is telling, not really on DD work quetion n giving silly excuse like same jodi can't work together or somthing char change n uniquenes, what about srk -kajol they have not work repeatedly n got famouse in every char every char remebered in fans heart here he could give some polite ans for this question but for me agar usne diya hota to polite hota its look like asw is from (his so called),

1) first either this inteview is not GC word its may be( I am 100 % sure) his so called wife words, as per his all seg can find out he can never ever be rude he is not this type person have seen his inteviews 2 yr which is long enough time to undersatnd someone as person ) but his wife is rude n blunt she never thought about GC imange n how badly she treated him in Media, that also we found in her seg n comment she gave during Gc health time n many more time about GC fans ,its not like humne kahani bandi uske bare main ,(so for me this option is correct so I love him as always loved)
2) otherwise accept it GC has 2 faces one what we saw during geet seg time humble n sown to earth or sec this Rude n ehsaan foramosh type which show n fans has brought him in this prostion n he is Ignoring them completely n success usske sir chad bol rahi hai(( for me this is not the case, as I feel from his all seg he is very humble n good guy's so always support him)
but both thing not in favour of GC, now you guys think which is the option for you ppl, think from you mind then blame geet fans why they are angry n bashing him n don't give suggestion why they should not have right to become angry n bash him
I am neither a GC fan nor a DD fan but i loved to watch GEET because maneet together gave a new life to the show.
ReplyDeleteI understand Gurmeet's POV of doing something different at this point of time. As an actor he needs to explore new horizons.
But reading this interview i did feel that he could have been a bit more humble and little more considerate about the feelings of his GEET fans while putting his point through. After all along with his hard work, their love and affection has also played a role in his success.
I personally feel he should consider working with Drashti again may be after a show or two as both of them together
on-screen is a treat to watch and can bring both of them more success.
Also as some one rightly pointed out in one of the earlier posts being a true fan does not mean blindly praising anything and everything that the start does. They can point out the mistakes as well and help the star grow.
I can't say anything to him after this interview, just feeling sad for him as he is having bad patners again its prooved that lady is most bad person in his life for him n his career, I know this is not our gurmeet, this not whom we watched last 2 yr, have remember DD n sandeep sir words from last day shoot,DD said he is most genuine person she ever met, so definatly what we think about him was not wrong,he is genuine n good guy as DD work with him 2 yr she knows better thn us and sandeep sir also said same thing kamaybi kabhi uske sir nahi chadi he was same like first day of shoot to last day of shoot n always told him never change so for me 10000% sure this is not GC words at alllllll but yes her better half can do anything bad for him ,she is hell bent to destroy his career , just make herself happy, wo wife hai ya dushman , ghar main hi wife esi ho to logon ko dushmano ki kya jaroorat. ReplyDeleteWe never saw ramayan,we came to know about this serial after we fell in love with maan chacter,and when we saw him in those previous role I hated it.Gurmeet is thankless,if he was so popular then why they did not take the best jodi award and most desirable award.See the records maaneet has broken.He can't stand or take decision on his own always needs support of his wife to lean on.IN PV HE IS TRYING TO COPY ALL WHAT HE DID WITH IN GEET.He is a big looser.If he is so confident why is he using old tactics,he was saying he wants to be different and not repeat,but never does what he says.His career is finished just wait and watch,is proud person and his wife is using him,if she loved him she would never come inbetween his growing career.

Gurmeet and Debina never had a fanbase big enough as Gurti and secondly Gurmeet became famous only after Geet and Debina got her share of publicity or should I say grabbed/pulled/forced publicity as Gurmeet's wife. Her body of work never brought her any recognition. As far as Drashti goes she was famous as Muskaan in DMG and she was the only famous personality in the Show Geet. She needed no introducton while Gurmeet was still not known....Gurmeet owns all his popularity to GHSP...whether you accept it or not...

I wish Dhrashti and Gurmeet could work together again. Gurmeet was right, GEET-2 will be like stretching a chewing gum....was great while it lasted, even with such thin a plot depending largely on the superb chemistry between the lead pair.

Hey Guys... I have just read through all your comments and I agree and disagree with most comments... To start, I am a Gurti/Maneet fan and although I don't speak Hindi nor am Asian so as to appreciate most cultural references in GHSP, I still watched without subtitles and fell head over heels in love with these two... infact I love so much I have started watching it again, spending many a nights watching until Dawn descends. Maan and Geet, there will never be any other, not in Hollywood or Bollywood- Most of you may think I am exaggerating, but try watching a film in a language you don't understand and be so captivated that you watch it again and again. I was so heart broken by what seems like a deliberate move to avoid working with Drashti, but then I realised that he is a married Man and should prioritise the feeling of his wife. Truth be told, if I was his wife, I would feel the same because the chemistry between Gurmeet and Drushti is beyond magical both on and off screen.
