Today is Guru Nanak Jayanthi. I extend to you all, my heartfelt wishes for the same. Guru Nanak Jayanti is the birthday of the first Sikh Guru, ‘Guru Nanak Dev ji’, and one of the most sacred festivals in India. The 10 Sikh Gurus were responsible for shaping the beliefs of the Sikhs. Their birthdays, known as Gurupurabs, are occasions for celebration and prayer among the Sikhs. The Gurupurab is celebrated every year with great pomp and show across the globe.
Guru Nanak Dev Ji (the First Guru, the founder of Sikhism) was born on 14 April 1469.The birthday of Guru Nanak Sahib falls on Kartik Poornima, i.e., the day of the full moon in the month of Kartik. The celebration is generally similar for all Gurpurabs; only the hymns are different. In India especially in Punjab, people comes from different states to celebrate Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s Birthday with religious fervour at Golden temple in Amritsar. All the Gurudwaras will be light up decoratively and people will come to worship waheguru on the auspicious occasion of Guru Nanak Jayanti.
