I don’t really care what people think of me: Sunny Leone

Sexy Siren Sunny Leone became talk of the town after she scorched up the small screen with her oomph factor as a ‘Bigg Boss-5’ participant. This was the first time in Indian Television history where an adult star was introduced to common man. Filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt offered her the lead role in Jism-2 while she was in Bigg Boss house. Following are some excerpts from the exclusive chat with this sexy babe who has recently starred in an item number in 'Shootout At Wadala'..

Born in Sarnia, Ontario, Sunny grew up in tranquil ambience, loving the cold Canadian winters and the snow that came with them. Her father (who passed away in 2010) was born in Tibet, but raised in Delhi and her mother (who she lost in 2008) was from Himachal Pradesh.

Say Sunny speaking about her childhood, “As a child I was a tomboy and played almost every sport.  I grew up in a typical Indian household. Both my parents made sure that we were always in touch with our culture even though we lived in Canada and America. My parents raised me to be independent.”

She started working for a German bakery, Jiffy Lube, and later at a tax and retirement firm. She was studying to be a paediatric nurse in Canada, when one of her classmate who was an exotic dancer introduced her to John Stevens. John was an agent who later introduced her to Penthouse Magazine’s photographer Jay Allen. She modelled for Penthouse till 2007.

While she was modelling for Penthouse magazine an agent contacted her to work in porn film. She was quite surprised as she was offered a large amount of money. Before joining the adult industry she changed her name from Karen Malhotra to Sunny Leone. ‘Sunny’ is an Indian nickname and sounded like fun and ‘Leone’, which is an Italian surname, was picked by Bob Guccione, ex-editor of Penthouse magazine.

Sunny was declared the Penthouse Pet of the Year in 2003. That same year, she starred in a video “Penthouse Pets in Paradise” along with Kyla Cole & Tera Patrick and signed a three-year agreement with Vivid Entertainment. With this agreement she was transformed into an adult star.

But that is not all there is to her..she runs a Sun-Lust Pictures along with Daniel Weber, her husband and business partner.  It’s been more than two years since she married Daniel.  I met Daniel through a friend of his and discovered that we had a lot in common,” she tells us when we asked about her first encounter with Daniel.

She started blushing when we asked her about perfect romantic date. “Dinner and wine in Mexico on the beach is perfect date for me,” says Sunny who loves to paint, read, surf and take long walks when she is free.

Yes, she comes with an accent and so her voice was dubbed by Smita Malhotra in her debut movie ‘Jism-2’. “During Jism-2 I was having so much of fun while shooting that I forgot to concentrate on my Hindi accent improvement. I hope to get the chance to dub my own voice for Ragini. We will see what happens,” she states.

She is an international figure and now a well known Bollywood actress, yet she is co-operative, honest and down-to-earth. She is not like other actresses who started throwing their weight around after success. Till now she has managed to fly high, while keeping her feet on the ground. “I have amazing people around me and am very well aware of my surrounding. Instead of showing attitude or throwing tantrums, I believe in hard work.

Be it in India or any other part of the world, the society looks down upon adult films. But,Sunny believes that one should have freedom to do whatever he/she wants in life be it his/her decision to join adult industry.

Doesn't it offend her when people judge her as a porn star? She has ‘why bother’ or ‘I don't care’ attitude towards such people. When we asked her how does she cope when hears something negative about herself? She said, “I don’t really care what people think of me. I know in my heart that I am a good person and that I never want to hurt anyone. I think that’s enough. I just make good movies and leave aside such negative things.” Mostly, the common man’s perception is that actresses don't have any character. We asked Sunny that since she came from such a background did she feel that men thought her to be’ loose’ or ‘available’? “I might work in the adult film industry, but no one comes near to me or no one even tries to get fresh. Where I come from, I got a lot from reverence from men, says the star candidly.

Well, that’s her ‘no-nonsense’ attitude, but like any celeb, Sunny has a keen sense of fashion. So, when we asked her what is ‘fashion’ according to her, the gorgeous actress said, “Fashion to me is what feels good to wear and finding clothes that fit well according to my body shape.”

An yes, she has her favorite’s too..she loves to wear dresses designed by Rohit Verma and dons his designs frequently. “Rohit is my favourite,”states Sunny. “He has been supportive of me since I stepped in Bollywood and has been dressing me everywhere I go. I can’t thank him enough for being so nice, she adds.

Yet, even with a full and colourful wardrode, like most girls sometimes she too feels her closet is full of clothes yet she has nothing to wear. “From time to time I feel that. Am sure every girl feels this way once in a while,” she giggled.  And, whenever she suffers from ‘no-dress-to-wear’ syndrome she goes for shopping. “I feel affection for shopping and for me each shopping experience is like chalk and cheese,” Sunny vowed.

She also thinks shoes can prove to be the biggest fashion faux pas and are as important as outfit. “I hate seeing shoes that don’t match an outfit. Make sure to keep your shoes in style, according to your outfit, and most crucially, clean!. By wearing dirty shoes, you’re making the worst fashion faux pas,” says Sunny.

As for her beauty fundas, you will always find a lip gloss is somewhere around her. She wears makeup according to occasion. She winked her eyes and said, “The amount of makeup I apply depends on what is going on that day. At this very moment I am not wearing any make up but when I go to lunch with my friends I will wear very little day make-up.”

While signing off the sexy star states, “Every woman is Perfect Woman, so don’t be afraid to love who you are.”  We agree!!
