Narendra Chanchal passes away

 


Veteran singer Narendra Chanchal, who was known for his religious songs and bhajans passed away on January 22.(Friday)

80 years old Chanchal was hospitalized in Delhi's Apollo hospital and passed away there.

Apart from performing at live events for a large part of his career, his songs like 'Chalo Bulava Aaya Hai' from  Rajesh Khanna and Shabana Azmi starrer Avtaar and 'Beshak Mandir Masjid Todo' from Bobby became immensely popular. He also won the Filmfare Award for Best Male Singer for Bobby.

The bhajan maestro was born in Namak Mandi, Amritsar on October 16, 1940. The religious atmosphere in his family inspired him to start singing bhajan and hymns.

He had penned his autobiography titled 'The Midnight Singer - Narinder Chanchal: The Extraordinary Journey of an Extraordinary Man' in which he wrote about his journey and how he attained fame.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter and wrote, "Extremely saddened to hear the news of Narendra Chanchal ji's death. He made a mark in the world of devotional songs. My condolences to his family and fans."
