Why are fans calling Mohit Raina’s new born daughter AshokaSundari?

Actor Mohit Raina of Uri and Devon Ke Dev Mahadev fame announced the birth of his baby girl on Friday. He tied the knot with Aditi in December 2021.

The actor posted an adorable picture of the baby girl to share the news on Instagram. As soon as the actor shared the photo, he was flooded with messages on his post. His fans dropped heart emojis and congratulatory messages.

While a couple of fans mentioned that Ashokasundari arrived at Mahadev's home, a few others are perplexed, as to why Ashokasundari is mentioned.

If you don't know, who Ashokasundari is, here are the details for you:

As per the folklore from Padma Purana, Parvati once requested Shiva to take her to the most beautiful garden in the world. He took her to Nandanvana, where Goddess Parvati saw a tree known as Kalpavriksha which could fulfill any wish.

Paravti's son Kartikeya was grown up, and he left Kailash, as a mother it caused immense grief and loneliness to her. Since the Kalpavriksha is a wish-fulfilling tree, Parvati wished for a daughter. Her wish was granted and Ashokasundari was born.

Interestingly, as per another folklore, Ashokasundari was present at the time when Ganesha was beheaded,

When Shiva beheaded Ganesha, Ashokasundari got scared by her father’s act and she decided to hide behind a sack of salt. When her mother Parvati got to know about this, she got angry, and out of anger, she also cursed Ashoka Sundari to become a part of the salt.

Later when Ganesha’s head was restored by Shiva, they restored life in their daughter and pacified her. That’s how Ashokasundari is associated with salt without which food is tasteless.

The name Ashokasundari (अशोकसुन्दरी) comprises two words, viz. Ashoka and Sundari. Ashoka means sorrowless, and Sundari means a beautiful woman. Therefore, Ashokasundari literally means 'a beautiful woman with no sorrows'.
