We had reported earlier, Ekta Kapoor is coming up with a show for Star Plus. Drashti Dhami, who was last seen in Zee TV's 'Ek Tha Raja Ek Thi Rani' and Shaleen Malhotra are roped in to play the protagonists. Gulmohar Grand actress Aakanksha Singh was also approached to play the female lead, but finally Drashti was zeroed to play the role because the makers and the channel felt Geet Hui Sabse Parayi actress fit the bill perfectly.
Laksh Lalwani, who was accused of being a troublemaker and was in the news for his showdown with his &TV's Adhuri Kahani Humari costar Mahima Makwana has been finalized to play the Drashti's boyfriend Amit (or Veer). Alok Narula will be playing the role of Rajiv and Ruhi Singh will be seen as Zenobia, while Sangeeta Kapure, who was also seen in 'Devon Ke Dev... Mahadev', has been finalized to play Chanchal.

Media reports have speculated that the show is inspired by Shahrukh Khan, Mahima Chaudhry and Apurva Agnihotri film 'Pardes'. Shaleen, Drashti and Laksh's characters will be on the lines of Shahrukh, Mahima and Apurva's role in the film respectively.
But our reliable source told us that the show has nothing to do with Subhash Ghai's superhit film, the only similarity is that the show is tentatively titled as 'Pardes'. Nevertheless, the show is loosely inspired from Manju Kapur's novel 'The Immigrant'.

Here are the brief details about the show:
Drashti will be seen as Nina Batra, who is 27 years old teacher. Her father, a well-travelled diplomat, died suddenly, leaving his daughter and widow to live in reduced circumstances. Nina's brother is settled in Canada, but refused to extend a financial helping hand.
Nina's ex-boyfriend Amit was about to settle in Canada, he decides to revive his old love and proposed Nina for the marriage. She was initially apprehensive because she doesn't want to leave her ailing mother alone. But then she decided to go-head and accepts Amit's proposal. Unfortunately, her mother's health took a turn for the worse before her wedding.
Nina felt helpless without money. Canada based Ananda Mehra, who runs a charitable trust came as a knight in shining armor to help her in this difficult situation. Gradually, Nina's mother gets back on her feet, after which Nina flies to Canada to meet her fiancée. However, destiny took a sad turn and Nina was left with a broken heart after getting dumped by Amit. Once again Ananda came as Nina's rescuer. Two strangers become friends and their friendship eventually bloomed into a loving relationship.
After marriage, Nina realized, Ananda is not the scion of the empire as she believed. Ananda is a good human being, a devoted family man. Nina noticed because of Ananda's over-trusting nature, his family is taking him for granted, that's why she encouraged him to start his own business and stand on his own feet.
Nina and Ananda struggled to survive and become a support system for each other.
