Ekta Kapoor’s premiere digital app ALT Balaji announces its first original series with Homeland star ‘Nimrat Kaur’ in the lead. ALT Balaji, which is geared up to launch in early 2017 will boast of a variety of original, exclusive & disruptive content. To be directed by ace director Nagesh Kukunoor, produced by Endemol Shine India the series is set against the backdrop of the Indian army and has been jointly conceptualized by Ekta Kapoor and Samar Khan. The yet untitled fiction series, will have Nimrat Kaur essay the role of the first woman preparing to be inducted in a combat role in the Indian Army.
“When we announced the launch of ALT Balaji, we promised to break stereotypes in storytelling; this series is a strong reinforcement of that commitment. The ALT wave has begun and we’re excited to kick start the announcement with this duo. While Nimrat is known for her unconventional choice of roles, Nagesh is known for his alternative style of filmmaking, both of which align with the core ethos of ALT Balaji,” says Ekta Kapoor.
Nimrat on being associated with this project says, “Unconventional projects interest me and I am always on the lookout to do something that I have never done before. After Homeland, I was keen to do a show that pushes me as an actor and that’s exactly what I found in this one. The story is set on the backdrop of the Indian army and coming from one myself, I got hooked instantly. What's exciting about partnering with Ekta for her platform ALT Balaji is the common belief that we need to shake up digital entertainment with power-packed, strong and brave original content. I am pretty certain, this is it”
“The digital revolution in India is going to be huge and today we are only at its tip. Ekta and I have decided to partner on an exciting show as she forays into the digital space with ALT Balaji. We aim to usher a new genre of bold and gripping storytelling in this medium. I'm excited because I've never ventured into this particular genre and that too on a digital platform!” says Nagesh Kukunoor who marks his debut into the digital world with this show.
Samar Khan adds, “The army and the armed forces have always fascinated me and stories with an army background draw me towards them naturally. I am excited about this opportunity to work with ALT and Endemol and am looking forward to telling a lot such stories in the future.”
Launching in early 2017, ALT Balaji marks Ekta Kapoor's ambitious foray into the digital domain, with her app, which will showcase exclusive, original, and never-seen before content.
