With music by well-known B Praak, composed and written by the very successful Jaani, Sooraj’s theme is a marked departure from the Punjabi superstars’ recent work which has mostly been upbeat, dance numbers. The video, shot in Vancouver, is directed by Baljit Singh Deo and features Shinda Grewal and Navpreet Banga.
Sooraj talks about love and betrayal and depicts the collapse of a family unit.
The superstar of the biggest blockbuster in Punjabi cinema Carry on Jatta 2 is currently busy shooting for his next film in Canada. He maintains, “For a long time now, I had been wanting to do a song which is not just about having a good time. I was looking at doing something more intense. In 2010, in my film Jinhe Mera Dil Luteya I had done a slow, emotional song which was appreciated a lot. Sooraj, produced by Bhushan ji gave me that scope.”
Gippy was totally involved with all aspects of creating the song --- from the conceptual stage to the final shooting of the video. Gippy says he had told lyricist Jaani to work on a song which had a slow mood. “Similarly, I told B Praak that I want a certain type of feeling in the song. Both of them delivered according to his vision for Sooraj.
Gippy adds, “My Last single Car Nach Di with Bohemia which was released by T-Series last year was completely different. This song which B Praak has written is very slow, the feel is very different. It has a lot more emotions. I have not sung such a composition before. Everything is very different for me in this song and it is a very different from previous experience.”
T-Series CMD Bhushan Kumar adds, “We are glad to be producing Sooraj through which Gippy has tried a different form of creative expression that he has not attempted for some time. I am confident that Gippy’s huge fan base across India, the US, the UK and Canada are going to appreciate Sooraj.”
