#MahaShivratri: Learning from Shiv Parvati's love story..

These are a few things, which I learned from Lord Shiv and Parvati's love story:

Men can cry and still be men..

Sati summoned her inner yoga fire and died of mortification. Her husband Shiv, who is stronger than the strongest thing in the entire Universe was bereft, mad with grief. He cried, placed her charred body on his shoulders, and began the dance of destruction.

This shows that even the most powerful man in the universe can cry without feeling guilty or ashamed. Why do we have fears of tears? Why do we tell men not to cry? If Shiva can cry, when he is heartbroken why can't we?

Suicide is a grave sin..

Sati committed suicide by immolating herself on the sacrificial altar when she was unable to bear the humiliation and abuses from her father for her husband Shiva.

Probably because she committed suicide her soul went through the cycle of re-birth 108 times and Lord Shiva was forced to wait for millions of years to reunite with her again.

Love requires patience, and sacrifice..

Sati was reborn as Parvati. She spent three thousand years in meditation. She stopped eating, stood on one leg in hot coals & then in the cold snow. She continued the meditation, till Shiva accepted her.

Even for God, love is not a cakewalk.

After a lot of pain, sacrifices, and patience, the twin flames Shiva and Parvati were reunited.
