Amazing to choreograph talented Lauren Gottlieb: Punit Pathak
Mumbai, May 23 (IANS) “ABCD” actor Punit Pathak will be seen dancing with international dancer Lauren Gottlieb in Colors’ dance reality show “Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 6”. He is looking forward to choreograph her as he would be able to think “out of the box” and “try new things”.
“I am anxious to show my talent. I love to choreograph and I want to show my dancing abilities on the show,” the choreographer-actor told IANS.
Pathak has been part of the second season of dance reality show “Dance India Dance”, in which he ended up being the second runner-up.
His “Jhalak…” partner Lauren Gottlieb had participated in the third season of “So you Think You Can Dance” and Pathak is excited to be teamed up with her again.
“We are on the same page (where participating in reality shows is concerned). She is the artist and my role is to choreograph. It is amazing to choreograph someone who is so talented. I can think out of the box and try new things,” he said.
Pathak feels that “Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa” will be very different from “Dance India Dance”.
“There I had Remo D’Sopuza (choreographer-director) sir as a mentor. Here I have to select the song, edit it, decide props and then choreograph. So everything, which a choreographer wants will be delivered in ‘Jhalak…’,” he said.
Punit, who started his career as a dancer on DID, acted in “ABCD” and now choreographing for ‘Jhalak…’, says the going has been good for him so far.
“It is going good so far. I am so blessed to be part of the industry where I am getting so much exposure,” he said.

Respect Tricolor...if we don’t then who will?
Our National Flag was adopted in its current form during an ad hoc meeting of the Constituent Assembly held on the 22 July 1947, a few days before our India’s independence from the British on 15 August, 1947. It has served as the national flag of the Dominion of India between 15 August 1947 and 26 January 1950 and that of the Republic of India thereafter.
Indian national law [Flag Code of India, 2002; the Emblems and Names (Prevention of Improper Use) Act, 1950; and the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act, 1971], governs the display and usage of the flag.
Official regulation states that that the flag must at all times be treated with “dignity, loyalty and respect”, the flag must never touch the ground or water, be used as a tablecloth or draped in front of a platform, cover a statue, plaque, cornerstone etc.
As per Indian National Law, damaged or soiled flags may not be cast aside or disrespectfully destroyed, they have to be destroyed as a whole in private, preferably by burning or by any other method consistent with the dignity of the flag.
15th August is coming and we are riding on the waves of patriotism. And why not? Aren’t we patriotic? Every corner, every crossroad, every shop, and every car sports the TRICOLOUR- THE SYMBOL OF OUR SOVEREIGNTY. The spirit of a True Indian.
And what on 16th? Gone is the Independence Day and gone with it is our patriotism, our devotion, and like true Indian we unceremoniously dump the national flag to the dustbin that is if we are a responsible citizen, or in most of the cases it is thrown on the road, in the gutter, or left to be trampled upon by the lucky patriots.
In keeping with true spirit of the Indian Culture we do not even dither to tear it after all its just the tricolor. The lucky few flags that are left untouched by the “True Indian” hang midway down the pole mourning the rape of the “Symbol Of Free India”.
Tricolor is not piece of colored paper it’s a symbol of national respect and pride. I kindly request to you all, please do not throw it in dustbins. Our national flag deserves a much better treatment. It if we don’t respect it, who will?
I think showing our patriotism on a single day is not enough, keep it also for the remaining 364 days. Tricolor needs to be respected all the year round, every day and every moment.
Please don’t buy tricolour if you cannot handle it.
The Do’s
- The National Flag may be hoisted in educational institutions (schools, colleges, sports camps, scout camps, etc.) to inspire respect for the Flag. An oath of allegiance has been included in the flag hoisting in schools.
- A member of public, a private organization or an educational institution may hoist/display the National Flag on all days and occasions, ceremonial or otherwise consistent with the dignity and honour of the National Flag.
- Section 2 of the new code accepts the right of all private citizens to fly the flag on their premises.
The Don’ts
- The flag cannot be used for communal gains, drapery, or clothes. As far as possible, it should be flown from sunrise to sunset, irrespective of the weather.
- The flag cannot be intentionally allowed to touch the ground or the floor or trail in water. It cannot be draped over the hood, top, and sides or back of vehicles, trains, boats or aircraft.
- No other flag or bunting can be placed higher than the flag. Also, no object, including flowers or garlands or emblems can be placed on or above the flag. The tricolour cannot be used as a festoon, rosette or bunting.

Women not playing diverse roles on TV: Shweta Tiwari
New Delhi, Jul 2 (IANS): She enjoyed being the favourite next-door-girl in "Kasautii Zindagii Kay", the first female winner of reality show"Bigg Boss" and now a strict mom in "Parvarrish - Kuchh Khattee Kuchh Meethi". But Shweta Tiwari feels women do not get to play diverse roles in TV shows.
"What I see is that women are not portraying too many characters or shades on screen. They are playing sweet, simple and nice roles. That is the only thing they do until they play a negative role," Shweta told IANS.
"If you see 'Balika Vadhu' she is the same. 'Byaah Hamari Bahoo Ka' is also the same. If you see any other show, all the leads look identically the same. No one is doing anything different," she said.
However, Shweta feels that her character of Sweety in "Parvarrish......" is true to real life and has all the shades of life.
"Sweety is at times mean and selfish but at times she has her own rules. She will not do wrong to you but will also not let anyone do wrong to her. Such characters are real characters, which are not shown on television any more. It is there in Bollywood, but no one likes them in this industry (television). I think this change should be there."
The 31-year-old was also part of the reality show "Bigg Boss 4" and when asked if there is an overdose of reality, Shweta feels otherwise.
"I think there was an overdose of reality shows, but now it is less. Now there are just a few selected ones left which have established themselves; and if people need fiction then they also need reality. I guess there is 'Big Boss', 'Dance India Dance' and shows like 'Indian Idol'. The rest of them have fizzled out. Earlier, there used to be so many, like 'Kitchen King' and 'Chote Miya'."
"Parvarrish - Kuchh Khattee Kuchh Meethi" has been dealing with parenting and the educational system. Shweta says parents have become more flexible now as compared to earlier.
"What I feel is that people have become more cool now. In our times, we were told to learn and mug up. We were told to become doctors and engineers. However, that is not the case now. People want to go for international learning. They know that their children have to do something. People don't look at marks but at how much children know," said Shweta, who has a daughter, Palak.
The actress, who is seeking divorce from her husband Raja Chaudhary.

My dream to repay my parents to whom I’ve been indebted to: Kunwar Amarjeet Singh
It’s time to cheer for Kunwar Amarjeet Singh, who is currently playing the role Reyansh Singhania in Channel V's Dil Dosti Dance. His smooth and fabulous dance moves send ladies across the globe swooning.
Dancing sensation will be celebrating his birthday tomorrow(16 March, 2012). I caught up with him to know about his birthday plans:
First of all happy birthday in advance!
Thanks a lot..
What are your birthday plans?
I am not a party animal who throw huge party on birthdays. That doesn’t mean I am not celebrating birthday, I am planning for a get together with friends. But nothing is decided as far now.
Which of your birthdays has been the best one till date?
Each birthday is special and unique in its own way. The birthday which I celebrated while I was doing Dance India Dance was best. At that time I was chasing my dreams of being a dancer, now I am living it.
What is the one thing you religiously do on your birthday?
When I was a kid mom har birthday par mandir bhejti thi, I follow the same routine every birthday. Apart from this I will go shopping tomorrow.
So what are you going to buy tomorrow?
Lots of new clothes.
One person you wish to meet on your birthday?
Only one? I have a long list.
Name a few?
Like Deepika Padukone, she is my dream girl(he started blushing madly).
Could you please stop blushing so that I can ask next question?
No I can't !! Her name is just enough to make me smile, I actually get the fluttering feeling in my chest whenever I hear Deepika.
Suppose I fix a dinner date with Deepika. What would be your reaction, when you meet her?
(he continued to blush) Please fix it as soon as possible. I don't know what I'm going to do when I meet her. I think behosh hoo jaunga. I turn mad when I see dimples on her cheeks.
Any other person whom you want to meet?
Shiamak Davar and Justin Timberlake, they are my inspiration. Shiamak sir is undoubtedly one of the best dancers we have in India. He has made a mark for himself, when dancing was not given that much importance in India.
Why Justin?
Justin is pop music's greatest dance sensation, I like to copy him. I hope to get the opportunity to meet him in person some day.
Do you have a secret desire that you want fulfilled?
I want to fulfil every desire of my parents. They fulfilled all my wants and desires from childhood. I was always given, whatever I desired, whatever I needed and demanded for. Our parents sacrifice a lot for us, my dream to repay my mom and dad to whom I’ve been indebted to.
What would you like to gift to your parents?
I would like to gift them a car.
We wish Amar a happy and fun-filled birthday!
Please leave your birthday wishes in the comments below.

Dance has become democratic-for the people, by the people and of the people: Shakti Mohan
Remember “The Red Shoes”? A British feature film about ballet, a fairy tale about a young girl Ballerina. In one of the scene, a choreographer asks her, “Why do you want to dance?” She retorted with a question, “Why do you want to live?” To that, he contemplates, and then says, “Well I don’t know exactly why, but I must.” Ballerina smiles that says, “That’s my answer too.”
Let us begin this interview with her journey till date. “It’s a beautiful journey. I have had a lovely childhood with three crazy sisters Mukti, Niti and Kriti. They are always with me. I studied for 10 years in a boarding school in Birla girl’s public school, Pilani Rajasthan. I was in Miranda house in Delhi for two years. Then my life changed in every sense when I came to Mumbai, which is called the city of dreams. I studied in St. Xavier's college, where I topped the Mumbai University in political science.”
Ever since she was a kid, she was drawn towards dance. Dance India Dance opened up the world for Shakti, when I asked her about life after winning DID she started blushing."DID was the most amazing experience. It's a very big platform for a dancer and to win this competition is even more amazing. After so many years of hard work, getting recognized for your work is very encouraging. My connection with dance became stronger after Dance India Dance.”
“I went to Vienna for training for a month in contemporary which I loved. I started performing for a lot of events and award nights and after that I was offered Dil Dosti Dance which was again was a Dance based show.”
Nimble-foot dancer decided to quit her debut fictional show 'Dil Dostii Dance' to chase her dream to learn dance in New York. She was playing Kriya in the show, her character will soon say biding adieu to the show. "I choose D3 as its dance based soap. I had a gala time shooting for that, we had a lot of masti and pranks on the sets. As we have to shoot round the clock so I really don't get time to sharpen my dance skills. Dance is my passion and I want to pursue it further by learning more, so I requested producers of D3 that I want to go for dance training. They supported my decision after that I decided to move on from the show. As a dancer I always wanted to learn dance at Broadway Dance Centre in US. The training will last for three months and I will try to learn as much as I can.”
If you have to choose from Dil, Dosti or Dance, what would be your answer? "It’s a little bit difficult to answer. But as Friends are integral part of my life, so it will be Dosti and then Dance."
What style of dance does she prefer? “I like contemporary and ballet, having an inclination toward hip hop nowadays."
Shakti believes that dancing beguile her heart, ignites the soul and lets the spirit fly free. She dances with her mind, body, soul, heart and everything, may be its reason behind her graceful motion while performing. When asked what she think about while performing on a dance floor? “I don't think when I dance. That's the best part about dance.”
More than 80% of dancers experience some form of stage fright. Is she ever worried about forgetting her steps? “Yes, always. I am very nervous every time when I have to go on stage. I get these butterflies in my stomach.”
Have you ever danced anything that made you look weird or funny? She laughed and said, “Well many a times. It depends who's watching, if you think what I am doing is weird it will be weird no matter how much I think it's great. Weirdness lies in the eyes of the beholder.”
Are you scared of getting old and not being able to dance anymore? “Getting old scares...not at all. You can dance at any age, Dance has no relation to age. In fact there are 60yr old teachers abroad who dance better than the students who are young.”
Many of the past oriental traditions had the dance and music as a form of to reach perfection and spirituality which could elevate their souls and conscience till god, but today dance and music became a mere way of having fun and an anti-stress therapy for liberation and ecstasy. “Today dance is more into the public on the streets in people hearts. In the olden times it was confined to the temples or courts. But with the changing times we have moved on and now everyone at any age goes for a dance class and performs on stage. Dance has become democratic-for the people, by the people and of the people.”
She has an immense amount of fan following. Audience goes weak on their knees the moment they see dancing diva Shakti. Any message for crazy fans? “I want to say to my lovely fans that live each and every moment of your life. I am trying to do that too. Live your life to the fullest. These precious years of life will never come back. I absolutely adore the way you guys support me and love me for what I do best- dance. It motivates me to become better and better. Thanks a ton for your love. I love you all a lot for every little thing you all do for me. It makes my day. A big hug to you all.”

'SMS voting system is now a money-making business' : Mayuresh Wadkar
I caught up with Mayuresh Wadkar who fascinated us with his dancing capabilities in Zee's Dance India Dance. Mayuresh is not only a dancer/ choreographer but is an aspiring actor also. He is intelligent, lively, hard-working and a jovial person to talk to. He will turn 26 on 24th December, here are the excerpts from the interview:
How would you describe your journey till date?
I have always wanted to be an actor and I took the first step towards acting by working on my dancing. I worked as a salesman, did some editing in Balaji, soon after which, I got a chance to join Terrence Sir's Dance Academy. Then DID happened.
What made you decide to take up dancing as a career?
Dancing is inbound talent in me and is always been my passion. I have been dancing since childhood. I used to watch on television and copy the moves of great dancers like Prabhu Deva and
How has your life changed pre and post Dance India Dance?
Pre DID I was just a background dancer, sometimes I danced as a lead but that did not bring fame. Post DID, people started recognizing me. Now Mayuresh Wadkar is a brand and I am so happy to see the transformation. DID was truly an enriching experience for me and was like an adventurous journey which I will cherish for my whole life.
You have a crazy fan following, any weird incidents with your fans?
(Blushes) Yes sometimes fans behaves in crazy way. Guys and Aunties come and say they like me and want to dance with me. At times I had some weird experiences of guys raising their hand when I asked gals to join me on the dance floor. After most of the eliminations, judges used to say ‘Oh that was unexpected, he/she should not be eliminated’. Don’t you think Judges can judge the contestants better than SMS system?
I agree.. Judges can judge contestants more appropriately than SMS system. The SMS voting system to judge the talent usually comes under much fire especially when the contestants who perform very well are suddenly voted out. I think final decision should be in the hands of Judges. SMS voting system is now a money-making business.
Some of the contestant show the emotional side of their life so that emotional viewers give them vote.
Some of the contestant do that to gain public sympathy. Sometimes channel and production house show such things, because they want to connect the contestant with audience.
Who are your closest buddies in industry?
I have lots of friends, Manish Paul, Shakti, Mukti, Dharmesh, Karan Grover, Terence Sir, Remo Sir, Geeta Maa, Siddesh Pai etc are close to me.
What about the enemies?
I don't make enemies with anybody.
Are you seeing someone?No(smiles).
Are you looking forward to act?
Yes of course, acting is on the cards. I am looking forward to act in movies not in serials but I will never going to leave my dancing as it is more of a passion for me than work.
One thing about yourself that no one knows.
I am an emotional guy.
You will turn 26 tomorrow, any birthday plans?
Going to party it up and celebrate with bunch of my friends.
Any advice to young and aspiring dancers?
If dance is your passion, then just go for it. Take proper training, join some good dancing institute and believe in yourself. Our soul comes alive when we dance.
Any message to you fans.
I just want to say thank you for all your love and support, and I am grateful for that. God Bless you all.
