Vaman Dwadashi

Vamana Jayanti is observed every year on the Shukla Paksha of Bhadrapad month, the day is also known as Vaman Dwadashi and Parivartini Ekadashi.

त्रैलोक्यराज्यमाक्षिप्य बलेरिन्द्राय यो ददौ ।

श्रीधराय नमस्तस्मै छद्मवामन रूपिणे ।।

Vamana Dev requested King Bali to give him three footsteps of land. Beneficent Bali could not deny this. 

With one footstep Vamana covered the whole earth, the second footstep covered heaven. When nothing was left Bali, who realized that the Vamana is Lord Vishnu's incarnation, offered his own head for the third step.
