TELLY DIVA : Dusky and Lovable Parul Chauhan..
Remember Ragini of Sapna Babul Ka Bidaai? The girl who faced lot of problems because of her dark complexion? Yes you are right! We are talking about the dusky beauty Parul Chauhan, who shot to fame overnight from Bidaai. The gorgeous actress was later seen in ‘Rishton Se Badi Pratha’. Post this she disappeared from the limelight. She recently made a comeback to tube with Zee Tv’s Punar Vivah. But unfortunately due to its dipping TRPs, the channel has finally decided to pull the plug on it.
When we asked her about her childhood she giggled and said, “I was a bit mischievous, Parul Chauhan thi badi Shaitan. So I used to get petrified when my mom used to say, I need to talk to you Parul. Though I was naughty but I was an obedient child at the same time who used to follow each and every instruction of her mom and dad.”
She hails from Lakshmipur, the second largest district in India, in Uttar Pradesh. She left her engineering course half way to peruse her dream of being an actor. Her first attempt in the world of acting got her one of the most popular serial 'Sapna Babul Ka-Bidaai' and rest is all history. “I never thought about being an actor, it was well planned and executed by destiny. Because of my dark complexion I was never appreciated by anyone. It was when my cousin convinced me to try my luck in acting. My family supported me and by God’s grace I landed up in Bidaai,” she affirmed.
She was a little nervous while giving her first shot, because she was novice and didn’t have any idea about mugging up the dialogues and delivering them gracefully. Initially she used to fumble and forget her lines and when she remembered her lines she was unable to act properly. “I am very thankful to my Bidaai team, they were so supportive. From my producer to the directors, co-stars to crew members; each and every one was extremely helpful and warm. It’s only because of their guidance and support that I have explored and groomed myself as an actor,” she turned nostalgic while answering.
After Bidaai, she did ‘Rishton Se Badi Pratha’. Though she did an episodic of ‘Savdhaan India’ and was in news for being approached by Endemol for Bigg Boss, but she maintained a low profile after Pratha went off-air. “After Pratha I took a small break and then did a film ‘Myoho’. It was my debut film with an interesting concept and based on our Karmic Cycle. I played two entirely different characters in the film. In the first part I played a village girl who died in an earthquake and in the second part I was reborn as a modernized girl. I had two more offers for films, but they got delayed,” quips sexy svelte.
She recently replaced Rubina Dilaik in Shashi Sumeet Mittal’s ‘Punar Vivah-Ek Nayi Umeed.’ When we questioned her about what made her take up Punar Vivah and mark her comeback as a replacement, she asserted, “I accepted this show because I found the concept and my character very interesting. Along with a very good and popular show, I have got the chance to work with one of the best and leading Production House & channel. What else do I need to be happy? I am very delightful to be a part of this show.” Is she upset because Punar Vivah, which she got after so long, is ending? She said, “No, I am not upset. The show is coming to a logical end.”
So many actresses are going under the knife to preserve their looks or to look more beautiful. Parul is not okay with any such cosmetic enhancement."I think I am perfect. Also I am deathly afraid of going under the knife so I am not at all okay with cosmetic enhancements. There are always risks involved any time someone has surgery. The moment you attack your body, you’ve just lost it. So I prefer to be original," affirmed Parul.
Rapid Fire with Parul...
Parul’s dream role...
I want to do roles of different genres. My definition of dream role would be a strong and challenging role, for which people would say ‘Hai Maar Hii Daala’ (in Madhuri Dixit style).
Parul’s dream actor to work with…
Shahrukh Khan of course!! He is hardworking, talented, and lovable. He is a superstar yet he is so down to earth. I am saying this with my personal experience. Fortunately I got opportunity to share screen space with him in ‘Kya Aap Paanchvi Pass Se Tez Hain?’ I was waiting on road for my shot in FilmCity for Bidaai almost after 10 months of shooting with Shahrukh. Suddenly a car stopped and driver came out. He said, somebody wants to meet me and that person is sitting in the car. I got scared, and then my unit members asked me to at least see who is sitting in the car. To my surprise that man was none other than Shahrukh Khan. This was definitely one of the most pleasing surprises. This is one moment I will always cherish.
Parul’s fitness mantra…
I eat healthy and avoid junk food. I practice Yoga to stay fit. I do Pranayama and Bhujangasana in the morning and brisk walk after dinner. All these small steps help me in being fit and in shape.
Parul’s beauty mantra…
Drink a lot of water, avoid flavoured fruit juices and drink fresh juices. Sometimes because of work load we do not get adequate amount of sleep, which clearly reflects on our face. So better sleep full and look beautiful.
Parul’s fashion funda…
Wear whatever you like, anything in which you feel comfortable. Fashion is a sense of our inner comfort so if you are comfortable in what you are wearing you are automatically in vogue.
When Parul is free she loves to…
I love to watch movies and do shopping whenever I am free.
The real Parul is...
Parul is sweet and as innocent as a child. The most important thing is that she is not fake (smiles)
Future plans…
I want to do acting, acting and acting. I don’t know what my future holds for me but I want to work and do lots of work until I die.

I am not that type of girl who throws tantrums: Parul Chauhan
Dusky damsel Parul Chauhan rose to fame from ‘Bidaai’. Later she did Rishthon Se Badi Pratha on Colors. Post this; she disappeared from lime light only to return to Zee TV’s Punar Vivah-Ek Nayi Umeed, where she is playing the character of Divya. When we asked her where was she after Pratha? She smiled and said, “Yahi toh thi, kaha jaaugi? After Pratha I got so many offers but due to some or the other reason nothing got materialized. I then played lead role in a movie called ‘Myoho’, which was based on karmic cycle. The concept was amazing, but due to lack of publicity it came and went unnoticed.”
Once a media friendly person Parul; politely started avoiding media after Pratha. And as it is said that out of sight is out of mind, most of entertainment industry’s people made a perception that she vanished like a puff of smoke. “I didn’t disappear; I was waiting for the right nod to hit. Fame, success, failures and uncertainties are a parcel of this peculiar glamour world and the professional life of an actor is very unpredictable. There was a time when I hardly got any time to sleep because I was shooting round the clock. Then came a time when I had nothing to do,” she affirmed.
The coffee-colored actress further added, “After Pratha everyone was asking the same set of questions like, what are you doing these days? When are you planning to come back? Frankly speaking, during that phase even I didn’t know the answers. For some time I replied to their calls, sms and emails but later I politely started refusing to give interviews. Some of the reporters misunderstood me and made a wrong notion that I am showing attitude by not answering their calls. I am not that type of girl who throws tantrums and shows attitude. I believe in staying grounded.”
We wish Parul all the best for her fresh innings..
