I stopped being desperate and have become choosy about my roles: Anupriya Kapoor

Dazzling-diva Anupriya Kapoor shot to fame from Balaji telefilms' Tere Liye. She is celebrating her birthday today (26th November). Scrutiny got in touch with the beautiful lady to know about her birthday plans.

"Nothing is planned as of now because only I and my mom are in Mumbai. My grandmother has a dental surgery so she went to New Delhi with Vyom (his brother). May be we will have a sudden plan and go out for a dinner or something."

Instead of ordering cake from outside Anupriya prefers to have home-made cake. Sometimes she herself bakes her birthday cake.

Unlike most of the actresses Anupriya does not believe in throwing grand parties. "I usually do not celebrate my birthday because I think I am not kid anymore. Rahi party ki baat toh I am not at all a party animal. I get bored after 15-20 minutes of entering a disc or a club. I start feeling choked because of the loud music there but yes I like small get-togethers with family members and friends."

She has been missing from the tube for a long time. She was last seen in a reality show ‘Jee Le Ye Pal’ after which she disappeared from small screen. "I am getting offers but the things are not falling in place. Sometimes the show gets scrapped or the channel recommends some other actress.”

While her fans are worried that she might vanish in a puff of smoke, she is not worried at all. “I stopped being desperate. I have become choosy and very selective about my roles. I want to do meaningful power packed lead roles rather than a small cameo or character role or an episodic. I got some offers for replacement, but I declined politely as I don't want to do replacements.”

What keeps you busy these days as you are not doing any work professionally? "Sach bataun toh mai bahut bore hoo jaati hu. I don't do anything. Din me 2 baar gym jaati hu. From last couple of months I started getting socialized. Whenever I get time I go out for shopping or meet my old friends. You won't believe but I watched a film in theatre recently almost after 2 years. I went to watch Yashraj ji's last film ‘Jab Tak Hai Jaan’. Though it's not a master piece but it was not disappointing either."

So you started meeting your old friends. Are you in touch with your ex-co-stars? "It's very difficult to meet each and everyone but yes I am in touch with Supriya ji and Geetanjali ji.  We meet once in 10-15 days. They are my energy boosters."

What about Harshad Chopra? "Aapne poocha toh yaad aaya it has been 6-7 months that we didn't meet. I don't even know what he is doing these days. I think we last interacted on his birthday."

Has love started blossoming between Harshad Chopra and Sriti Jha?

It seems that love has started blossoming between Harshad Chopra and Sriti Jha. They are currently sharing screen space in Life Ok's show  'Dil Se Di Dua Saubhagyavati Bhava'.

As per our sources from the set it is noticed that, they spend most of the time in each other's makeup room. Couple of days ago when Sriti was ill, Harshad took care of her like a doting boyfriend.

Harshad was earlier linked to Sonam Mann, Additi Gupta and Anupriya Kapoor. He was rumored to be in a relationship with his Dharampatni co-star Aasiya Kazi as well.

When he signed Saubhagyavati Bhava, everyone started speculating that he will be linked to Sriti Jha. Even at that time Harshad said jokingly, "I am pretty sure that my name will be linked with Sriti. Har bar meri costars ko meri girlfriend bana deta hai media."

Well Harshad if you knew that your name will be linked with Sriti then instead of spending time in Sriti' s makeup room you should have taken extra precautions to avoid such news.

We tried to contact him but as usual he didn't picked up the call. Sriti denied by saying, "It's all rumors."

Well jaha dhua hai waha kahi na kahi aag toh hogi.

April 02, 2012

I took it as a compliment when people gossip about my relationship with Harshad : Anupriya Kapoor

Tere Liye was the romantic saga which created history in a very short duration of time (14th July, 2010 to 2nd April, 2011).  It was the love story of Taani (Anupriya Kapoor) and Anurag (Harshad Chopra), who are bound by the thread of love from their childhood.

I caught up with Anupriya Kapoor aka Taani of the ruthless love story and here she shares about Tere Liye, Taani and Harshad Chopra.

Do you know why April the 2nd is special?
Well yes, of course I remember. I want to make a little correction to your question, 2nd April is not special for those who are related to Tere Liye.

Then?
It was incredibly sad day not only for fans but for me also. Because Tere Liye went off air on 2nd April, 2011, so I think it’s a not the day to celebrate.

What do you think is the secret for the success of Tere Liye?
Tere Liye was an absolutely performance driven show and has an amazing story line. Each character was so balanced that no actor overshadows the other. If you look at each character, you will realize they are all very well scripted. May be this was the secret behind the success.

Tere Liye went through a lot of changes in terms of creative team over the time.
Actually, naye writers, creative’s aur director’s aa rahe the.. jaa rahe the. I don’t know audience are aware of it or not, I think they never felt that some many things are changing in the background.

Off course viewers never felt it.  Do you know why?
The casting was perfect as everybody fits the bill and all the actors were emotionally attached to their characters.  Inspite of creative changes in the background, each actor managed to maintain their performance and had given their best.

You have received kudos for executing the character of Taani so well. Do you have anything to say?
When you are playing a character then you should not only act, you must feel it as well, which is hardest part of acting. I was psychologically attached to Tanni. I actually cried, laughed while playing the character.

Your fans still remember you as Taani.
Sometimes I feel happy, I think kuch achcha kaam hii kiya hoga maine.

So do you think audience will accept you in different character as they still see Taani in you?
I know they will be with me and accept me in different characters also.

If given an opportunity will you work with Harshad as a co-star again, would you say yes?
What do you think?

You are not supposed to ask questions?
Haha..Obviously my answer will be yes.

If you share screen space with Harshad then your chemistry might typecast?
I don’t think so because woh naya show Tere Liye nahi hoga.

If you could play any other character from Tere Liye, which one would it be?
I would love to play Taani again and again, because that's the only character of Tere Liye which suits me.

I am curious about your relationship status.
I am single. Don't forget, curiosity killed the cat(laughs)

You've been linked to Harshad Chopra earlier.
We never dated, neither I was nor am I in a relationship with Harshad.  They were just rumours.

Are you bothered because of such rumours?
I can't be bothered with them. Initially I used to get irritated but gradually I started taking it as a compliment.

You are taking relationship rumours as compliment... I am confused.
I think our on and off screen chemistry was responsible for this (smiles).  As an actor I take it as compliment because we enacted our roles in Tere Liye very well that people started believing that we are off screen couple.

What are you doing these days?
I am travelling too much these days.

Travelling and losing your stuff.
Exactly, recently I forgot my blackberry while shopping in Dubai.

I am tempted to ask what you have lost today?
(laughs) I lost one of my diamond earrings. I am still searching pata nahi kaha gayi.

Would you like to do a reality show since you have done ‘Jee Le Ye Pal’ in the past?
Yes I would love to.

How real reality shows are?
‘Jee Le Ye Pal’ was a real one, it was a clean reality show. I will never cheat my audience in reality show. If I ever do a reality show and felt it’s scripted then I will openly accept it.  I believe in calling a spade a spade.

International Women's Day Special

To celebrate women's triumph throughout history and across nations each year International Women's Day is celebrated on March 8.

I had a chat with three beautiful TV actresses Additi Gupta, Anupriya Kapoor and Aasiya Kazi, a day before International Women’s Day.

Excerpts..

Additi Gupta

For women there are a million reasons to be happy as they end up with two X chromosomes. What in your opinion is the biggest advantage of being a woman?
There are so many advantage of being women. Like if I meet with a small accident, I just give a smile to other person and say ‘Sorry Uncle galti hoo gayi!!’ and my work is done. Or when I accidentally break something, I just wear a smile and say ‘Maine ye intentionally nahi kiya, Sorry!!’. I do it many times. A smile from women can make even the worst situation better.

It is very well known that every coin has two sides and almost every good thing has a darker side. The same goes true with womanhood.
Women are generally assumed to be weaker, in real we are the strongest species on the planet.

Any situation you faced, when you are considered weak?
So many times, for example guys’ think that girl can’t play cricket. So if we were to go for batting, they would slowly throw the ball towards the wicket. Guys think that we can’t play it all.

What's your take on ‘Naari Shakti’, which signifies power of Women?
Shakti represents divine feminine energy. We women’s are blessed with power of motherhood. There’s nothing like being able to experience pregnancy and childbirth. Men just can’t do that.

Society started equal valuing of the roles of women and men. Gender equality and women's empowerment comes in picture to overcome the barriers of stereotypes and prejudices. Nowadays women walk shoulder to shoulder with men, what do you think do we need reservations for women’s?
I cannot comment on overall reservation. Women's are raped in trains, eve teasing is very common social problem and every day in Mumbai local trains you come across some form of eve teasing. I think to avoid such things quota for Women’s are required in transport.

What is your advice to women who go through domestic violence?
Domestic violence is the most common unreported crime which our culture has accepted. Society does not allow us to speak out that’s why females have become use to it in their life that. In my view we should bare it till a certain level and fight when it crosses the limit.

Which woman do you admire the most?
My cousin sister Apala is my closest female pal. We know each other since the time we were kids. I love the way she thinks and her point of view is amazing. I am ziddi types, Apala is the only person who can change my point of view.

Aasiya Kazi

Do you take pride in femininity?
Off course, I do. I pleased to be a woman.

Dark side of womanhood?
Some people give more importance to boys. Still in many families birth of a boy brings so many joys where as birth of a girl is not considered as that blissful.

Are women superior than men?
Well I think yes, these days girls are ahead of boys and are working in similar or better positions than men.

Nowadays women walk shoulder to shoulder with men, what do you think do we need reservations for women’s?
Yes reservation is required it’s a step toward women liberation.

What is your advice to women who is going through domestic violence?
Don’t just stand back and let it happen go ahead and fight for your rights. You do not deserve to be abused.

Which woman do you admire the most?
The most important person in my life my nani. I admire her from the core of my heart.  I hope she would have been there with me today.

Anupriya Kapoor

What in your opinion is the biggest advantage of being a woman?
I don’t think being a woman gives you any advantage. But yes I am proud to be women; there are certain things which only we women’s can execute, like we can give birth.

Any dark side of womanhood?
Like I just said being a women does not gives you any advantage, the other way round is also true. Being an educated, working women I don’t see any dark side.

But still being a woman is considered as a curse?
Hmm..yes it’s a curse in some part of society.  Sati pratha and female foeticide still exist among uneducated people. Sometimes I really feel sad because of such issues. Just because these people do not treat females nicely, women are considered as a curse in our country.

Are women superior than men?
God created Men and Women as the opposite sexes of the same species and we are supposed to be different in every sense. Neither man nor woman was superior or inferior to the other, we cannot compare two genders.

What's your take on ‘Naari Shakti’, which signifies power of Women?
Sadly women's strength has been historically underestimated. By God grace women have greater patience than men which make us strong. We are strong & capable, yet gentle and vulnerable. We don’t need talwaar to fight and that’s what I call Naari Shakti.

Society started equal valuing of the roles of women and men. Gender equality and women's empowerment comes in picture to overcome the barriers of stereotypes and prejudices. Nowadays women walk shoulder to shoulder with men, what do you think do we need reservations for women’s?
I don’t think educated and working class women need reservations, they are totally capable. Because of fewer opportunities for women reservations are must in rural areas. In such areas women really need some motivation to come out of the shackles of their households.

Forgiveness

Forgiveness is probably the hardest thing we’ll ever attempt to do, but once we are able to let go the wrongs that have been done to us, it changes everything. My mom always says, forgiveness is one of the most beautiful expression of love, because it changes your relationship, your emotional makeup, your attitude and gives you a better life.

Most of the people believe that forgiving is a sign of weakness, but the fact is that it’s the sign of strength. You’re always a winner after forgiving, you don’t lose anything.  I called a few actors to find their views on forgiveness:

PUSHTIEE SHAKTI: For me forgiveness is bliss. It’s a door to peace and happiness. People say it’s very difficult, but I find it very easy. I forgive each and everyone who hurts me ‘unintentionally’. I don’t even remember when was the last time I forgave someone. When people ‘deliberately’ hurt me, I hurt them in such a way that they never ever dare to cross my path. I believe in forgiving but not forgetting.

GAURAV BAJAJ: Forgiving is a good job. It carries a lot of power and is like a blessing for a person who hurts you. I hardly get angry, and I take fraction of seconds to forgive. I don't believe in holding a grudge against anyone. I think if you want peace then you should know how to forgive.

PANCHI BORA:  For me forgiveness matters a lot and is very important tasks that need to be performed on regular basis. I said regular basis because every day so many people hurt you and you hurt so many people, so if you don’t forgive or seek forgiveness your life becomes stressful. Being a true capriconion I have an amazing memory of the tiniest detail so it is very difficult for me to forget, but I forgive easily.

SAMEER SONI: I believe in karma, what goes around comes around. When somebody cheats you, hurts you, then you must forgive and forget because God is watching and will punish him/her for their evil deeds. Mistakes happen and we also hurt others, so when somebody hurts me I forgive and move on. Why to hold grudges? Why to flatter anyone? Why to give importance to others?

ANUPRIYA KAPOOR: I have a very sensible reason for forgiveness. When we are wronged we can either respond by seeking revenge or we can forgive. I choose forgiveness; it allows me to move on. It’s like a gift which I always want to receive and give away. People who are very close to you mostly hurt the most and I cannot stay away from my family and friends so I forgive them. I feel satisfied when I forgive someone or seek forgiveness.

ADDITI GUPTA: It’s a human nature to do mistakes & when they do mistakes they regret, and when they regret they need forgiveness. But only a few people have guts to face the other person and say ‘Sorry’. When somebody hurts me & say ‘Sorry’ I forgive them but for me forgetting is not possible. I think even after forgiving a Black Space always remains in your heart. Every hurt teaches you a lesson, it’s good to forgive but when you forgot your giving another chance to the same person or to someone else to commit the same mistake again.

AASIYA KAZI: Like others I do believe in forgiveness. It vanquishes the pain and heals both the forgiver and the forgiven. At some point in our lives, we either have to forgive or get forgiven. I think it’s very easy to ask for forgiveness by saying 'I am sorry', but it’s very difficult to forgive others. I can forgive someone for a mistake or a deliberate hurt, but if that person repeats it again I teach him/her a good lesson.

RAKHI SAWANT: I love Jesus. Bible teaches us to love our enemies. Jesus’s plea from the cross shows-‘Father, forgive them, for they don’t know what they do’. I do the same when somebody hurts me and if by mistake I hurt anyone then I immediately say sorry, sorry bolne se mai choti nahi hoo jaaugi na. Recently I was hurt when Kangana Ranawut said,” I will not kiss Mika for promotion because I am not Rakhi Sawant”.  I was deeply hurt, I cried but then later I forgave her. I am innocent, though I am always misunderstood and ridiculed. I am happy because my Jesus is with me.

SHALINI ARORA: Forgiving somebody is giving him/her a 2nd chance to change and make things better. But at the same time it is hard to forget, I do not keep the score and hold grudges against anybody. For me it’s much easier to forgive an enemy than to forgive people I love.

DRASHTI DHAMI: I do believe in it, it’s a crucial act of self healing, and self-empowerment. Once we decide to forgive somebody, there is a tremendous feeling of wholeness in thought and courage all moving in the same direction creating a powerful force for healing.  When a friend hurt me I forgive them easily, but I usually don't give too much importance to strangers when they hurt me. I apologize and I always say "I'm sorry" when I hurt someone or if I make a mistake.

All the actors said that they do believe in forgiving, but a few believe in ‘Forgiving but not Forgetting’.  Just by saying I forgive you is not enough, tree of bitterness will die and forgiveness will bear a fruit only if the soil around it i.e. the soil of the heart is soft enough for the fruit to grow in.
