On the occasion of Mother’s Day, we spoke to a few popular TV celebs and asked them to describe their mom in one sentence. Here is what they said:
Urvashi Dholakia, who will be soon seen in yet another power packed role in Ekta Kapoor's Chandrakanta affirmed that she has a great respect for all the mother's not just today but everyday. "As a child, we wake up every morning and get to work and start our day. But Mothers wake up and pray. They pray for our joyous life, they pray so that we can remain strong. Actors talk about their Independence Day memories of childhood

We caught up with a few celebs and asked about any of their special childhood experience on this freedom day.

Giaa Manek
Usually on Independence Day we would get an off, as in we would just have to come to school for sometime for doing the rituals of Independence Day. I remember, me and my 2 classmates used to sing patriotic songs after flag hosting, those were sweet innocent memories which I will always cherish.

Karan Sharma
I remember on Independence Day we used to line up and march in the school ground. Once, I was supposed to sing 'Nanha Munna Rahi Hoon', at that I was quite nervous and scared, that when I went on stage I forgot the song which I was supposed to sing.

Aasiya Kazi
When I was a kid I used make tricolor at home. I remember, every year while I was making our National flag my dad used to tell me, “Beta it's not just a piece of paper, it's a symbol of the Nation's respect and pride. Never ever disrespect it.”

Ankita Bhargava
For a long time in my childhood 15th August just meant holiday. It was only during teenage when we were introduced to films like Bhagat Singh, Mangal Pandey and Rang De Basanti, that I realised what 15th August really meant to this country. I remember our elders used to tell us stories about the struggle for independence, which was an eye opener and changed the way I looked at 15th August.

Sahil Anand
My grandparents used to buy me new clothes so that on 15th August I should wear new clothes and I remember all my family used to sing national anthem on 15th and morning which we still do that.

Chandni Bhagwanani
On every independence day I danced in the school on patriotic songs. I remember I did a show in NCPA in front of Mumbai police, when I was a senior student in Shiamak Davar's dance institute. We performed on 'Vandemataram', that was most memorable performance till date.

Aasiya Kazi Mad Over Ranbir Kapoor!

It’s hard to believe that the heart ruler of tons of people has lost her own heart for rockstar Ranbir Kapoor. We are talking about the innocent Aasiya Kazi, who shot to fame by playing Santo in ‘Bandini’. She is a great admirer of Bollywood’s heartthrob Ranbir Kapoor. When she first saw him in Saawariya and she could not control herself from drooling over him.

Once while shooting for Bandini, Aasiya came to know that Ranbir is shooting nearby. She left the set without informing anyone with two of her co-stars. She ran bare foot in Santo’s attire. At that time Bandini was not on air, so nobody recognized her and she was saved otherwise people would have gone crazy seeing their Santo run like that.

“Someone on the set was telling spot boy that Ranbir was shooting nearby. I lost my patience the moment I heard this. I left the set with my co-stars, who were also Ranbir’s fan. When I reached on location where Ranbir was shooting people thought that I was a gaon ki ladki who came here to meet Ranbir. Though I didn’t get the chance to meet him personally, but I am happy as at least I saw him. I get butterflies in my stomach whenever I see him on screen. I wish I get an opportunity to go out for a date with him," narrates Aasiya.

International Women's Day Special

To celebrate women's triumph throughout history and across nations each year International Women's Day is celebrated on March 8.

I had a chat with three beautiful TV actresses Additi Gupta, Anupriya Kapoor and Aasiya Kazi, a day before International Women’s Day.

Excerpts..

Additi Gupta

For women there are a million reasons to be happy as they end up with two X chromosomes. What in your opinion is the biggest advantage of being a woman?
There are so many advantage of being women. Like if I meet with a small accident, I just give a smile to other person and say ‘Sorry Uncle galti hoo gayi!!’ and my work is done. Or when I accidentally break something, I just wear a smile and say ‘Maine ye intentionally nahi kiya, Sorry!!’. I do it many times. A smile from women can make even the worst situation better.

It is very well known that every coin has two sides and almost every good thing has a darker side. The same goes true with womanhood.
Women are generally assumed to be weaker, in real we are the strongest species on the planet.

Any situation you faced, when you are considered weak?
So many times, for example guys’ think that girl can’t play cricket. So if we were to go for batting, they would slowly throw the ball towards the wicket. Guys think that we can’t play it all.

What's your take on ‘Naari Shakti’, which signifies power of Women?
Shakti represents divine feminine energy. We women’s are blessed with power of motherhood. There’s nothing like being able to experience pregnancy and childbirth. Men just can’t do that.

Society started equal valuing of the roles of women and men. Gender equality and women's empowerment comes in picture to overcome the barriers of stereotypes and prejudices. Nowadays women walk shoulder to shoulder with men, what do you think do we need reservations for women’s?
I cannot comment on overall reservation. Women's are raped in trains, eve teasing is very common social problem and every day in Mumbai local trains you come across some form of eve teasing. I think to avoid such things quota for Women’s are required in transport.

What is your advice to women who go through domestic violence?
Domestic violence is the most common unreported crime which our culture has accepted. Society does not allow us to speak out that’s why females have become use to it in their life that. In my view we should bare it till a certain level and fight when it crosses the limit.

Which woman do you admire the most?
My cousin sister Apala is my closest female pal. We know each other since the time we were kids. I love the way she thinks and her point of view is amazing. I am ziddi types, Apala is the only person who can change my point of view.

Aasiya Kazi

Do you take pride in femininity?
Off course, I do. I pleased to be a woman.

Dark side of womanhood?
Some people give more importance to boys. Still in many families birth of a boy brings so many joys where as birth of a girl is not considered as that blissful.

Are women superior than men?
Well I think yes, these days girls are ahead of boys and are working in similar or better positions than men.

Nowadays women walk shoulder to shoulder with men, what do you think do we need reservations for women’s?
Yes reservation is required it’s a step toward women liberation.

What is your advice to women who is going through domestic violence?
Don’t just stand back and let it happen go ahead and fight for your rights. You do not deserve to be abused.

Which woman do you admire the most?
The most important person in my life my nani. I admire her from the core of my heart.  I hope she would have been there with me today.

Anupriya Kapoor

What in your opinion is the biggest advantage of being a woman?
I don’t think being a woman gives you any advantage. But yes I am proud to be women; there are certain things which only we women’s can execute, like we can give birth.

Any dark side of womanhood?
Like I just said being a women does not gives you any advantage, the other way round is also true. Being an educated, working women I don’t see any dark side.

But still being a woman is considered as a curse?
Hmm..yes it’s a curse in some part of society.  Sati pratha and female foeticide still exist among uneducated people. Sometimes I really feel sad because of such issues. Just because these people do not treat females nicely, women are considered as a curse in our country.

Are women superior than men?
God created Men and Women as the opposite sexes of the same species and we are supposed to be different in every sense. Neither man nor woman was superior or inferior to the other, we cannot compare two genders.

What's your take on ‘Naari Shakti’, which signifies power of Women?
Sadly women's strength has been historically underestimated. By God grace women have greater patience than men which make us strong. We are strong & capable, yet gentle and vulnerable. We don’t need talwaar to fight and that’s what I call Naari Shakti.

Society started equal valuing of the roles of women and men. Gender equality and women's empowerment comes in picture to overcome the barriers of stereotypes and prejudices. Nowadays women walk shoulder to shoulder with men, what do you think do we need reservations for women’s?
I don’t think educated and working class women need reservations, they are totally capable. Because of fewer opportunities for women reservations are must in rural areas. In such areas women really need some motivation to come out of the shackles of their households.

Forgiveness

Forgiveness is probably the hardest thing we’ll ever attempt to do, but once we are able to let go the wrongs that have been done to us, it changes everything. My mom always says, forgiveness is one of the most beautiful expression of love, because it changes your relationship, your emotional makeup, your attitude and gives you a better life.

Most of the people believe that forgiving is a sign of weakness, but the fact is that it’s the sign of strength. You’re always a winner after forgiving, you don’t lose anything.  I called a few actors to find their views on forgiveness:

PUSHTIEE SHAKTI: For me forgiveness is bliss. It’s a door to peace and happiness. People say it’s very difficult, but I find it very easy. I forgive each and everyone who hurts me ‘unintentionally’. I don’t even remember when was the last time I forgave someone. When people ‘deliberately’ hurt me, I hurt them in such a way that they never ever dare to cross my path. I believe in forgiving but not forgetting.

GAURAV BAJAJ: Forgiving is a good job. It carries a lot of power and is like a blessing for a person who hurts you. I hardly get angry, and I take fraction of seconds to forgive. I don't believe in holding a grudge against anyone. I think if you want peace then you should know how to forgive.

PANCHI BORA:  For me forgiveness matters a lot and is very important tasks that need to be performed on regular basis. I said regular basis because every day so many people hurt you and you hurt so many people, so if you don’t forgive or seek forgiveness your life becomes stressful. Being a true capriconion I have an amazing memory of the tiniest detail so it is very difficult for me to forget, but I forgive easily.

SAMEER SONI: I believe in karma, what goes around comes around. When somebody cheats you, hurts you, then you must forgive and forget because God is watching and will punish him/her for their evil deeds. Mistakes happen and we also hurt others, so when somebody hurts me I forgive and move on. Why to hold grudges? Why to flatter anyone? Why to give importance to others?

ANUPRIYA KAPOOR: I have a very sensible reason for forgiveness. When we are wronged we can either respond by seeking revenge or we can forgive. I choose forgiveness; it allows me to move on. It’s like a gift which I always want to receive and give away. People who are very close to you mostly hurt the most and I cannot stay away from my family and friends so I forgive them. I feel satisfied when I forgive someone or seek forgiveness.

ADDITI GUPTA: It’s a human nature to do mistakes & when they do mistakes they regret, and when they regret they need forgiveness. But only a few people have guts to face the other person and say ‘Sorry’. When somebody hurts me & say ‘Sorry’ I forgive them but for me forgetting is not possible. I think even after forgiving a Black Space always remains in your heart. Every hurt teaches you a lesson, it’s good to forgive but when you forgot your giving another chance to the same person or to someone else to commit the same mistake again.

AASIYA KAZI: Like others I do believe in forgiveness. It vanquishes the pain and heals both the forgiver and the forgiven. At some point in our lives, we either have to forgive or get forgiven. I think it’s very easy to ask for forgiveness by saying 'I am sorry', but it’s very difficult to forgive others. I can forgive someone for a mistake or a deliberate hurt, but if that person repeats it again I teach him/her a good lesson.

RAKHI SAWANT: I love Jesus. Bible teaches us to love our enemies. Jesus’s plea from the cross shows-‘Father, forgive them, for they don’t know what they do’. I do the same when somebody hurts me and if by mistake I hurt anyone then I immediately say sorry, sorry bolne se mai choti nahi hoo jaaugi na. Recently I was hurt when Kangana Ranawut said,” I will not kiss Mika for promotion because I am not Rakhi Sawant”.  I was deeply hurt, I cried but then later I forgave her. I am innocent, though I am always misunderstood and ridiculed. I am happy because my Jesus is with me.

SHALINI ARORA: Forgiving somebody is giving him/her a 2nd chance to change and make things better. But at the same time it is hard to forget, I do not keep the score and hold grudges against anybody. For me it’s much easier to forgive an enemy than to forgive people I love.

DRASHTI DHAMI: I do believe in it, it’s a crucial act of self healing, and self-empowerment. Once we decide to forgive somebody, there is a tremendous feeling of wholeness in thought and courage all moving in the same direction creating a powerful force for healing.  When a friend hurt me I forgive them easily, but I usually don't give too much importance to strangers when they hurt me. I apologize and I always say "I'm sorry" when I hurt someone or if I make a mistake.

All the actors said that they do believe in forgiving, but a few believe in ‘Forgiving but not Forgetting’.  Just by saying I forgive you is not enough, tree of bitterness will die and forgiveness will bear a fruit only if the soil around it i.e. the soil of the heart is soft enough for the fruit to grow in.

Dharampatni

Deeya and Tony Singh's DJ's Creative Unit is making a fiction show titled Dharampatni on Imagine TV.  Buzz is that it’s the love story of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi and his wife Kasturba, but the fact is that it was inspired from Gandhi and Kasturba.  Kasturba Gandhi got married to Mahatma Gandhi when she was only thirteen years old, where as in the show the age of female lead is approx 19 years. Screen names Mohan Gala(not Mohan Galla) and Kastur Gala are taken from Mohan Das and Kasturba.

Supriya Raina Shukla, who played Anupriya Kapoor’s mother in Tere Liye will essay mother of male lead in the show.

Aasiya Kazi, who became popular after Bandini and Maati Ki Banno, is approached to play the female lead role.  Aasiya confirmed the news, “Yes I have been approached and had given look test for the same. I cannot comment at this point of time as nothing is finalized.”

Harshad Chopra was offered Mohan Gala, Abhishek Rawat (Agle Janam Mohe Bitiya Hi Kijo fame) was also approached  for the role but creative team found Harshad more appropriate for the role. “Talks are on with the channel, we have one more meeting after that I can confirm the news.  As per my understanding it’s not the love story of Mahatma Gandhi and Kasturba. The shoot will commence in the few weeks if everything goes smoothly.”, Harshad said.

Bandini fans are sad after hearing this news because they are under impression that Bandini is coming up with season two where as Harshad fans want him to be paired opposite to Aditi Gupta or Anupriya Kapoor.

"Tears trigger TRP" : Aasiya Kazi

Aasiya kazi is well known as Santo became house hold name after super success of her debut show Bandini. Bandini was produced by Balaji Telefilms. When Bandini gone off air, its protagonist Aasiya Kazi was bombarded with lots of offer, but she decided to play an obssessed wife in Hema Malini's Maati Ki Banno on Colors. The 20-year-old girl chats up with Enlighten India’s Media Manager K Himaanshu Shukla.

“Bandini happened suddenly, I went for audition. Ekta saw the audition, she liked me and selected me to play Santo. I was extremely nervous but super excited at the same time. Nervous Because I was a new bie in this industry and Bandini was my first show, I was unaware how television works. I used to get goose bumps, knowing how lucky I am because I will share screen space with Ronit da(Ronit Roy). I didn’t have any formal training in acting; I got trained while doing the show.

Ronit da, Rasika ji and the directors were quite supportive. I am blessed to be able to work with senior people at the very beginning of my career. Whenever I have a problem I take help from them, they make me understand how to act, how to carry myself in front of camera. They taught me how to cry and how to laugh on screen.”

When I asked how she managed to cry so much on screen, she laughed and replied by saying that “If you are playing female lead in the daily soap then you have to cry. Lead ki kismat me rona hi likha hota hai, muskuraane ka mauka to kabhi kabhi hi milta hai. The viewers of daily soaps are chiefly women, remote is under their control and nothing touches them better than tears. I guess tears trigger TRPs.

In real life I don’t like rona or rulana. I love to live life happily. I feel more happy when the people surrounded me are happy. I like to play pranks so that I can make them happy.”

Bandini was a huge hit, Aasiya’s chemistry with Ronit Roy has been appreciated. Ekta Kapoor once said that “In spite of huge age difference Aasiya and Ronit look so good as a couple, they make a good eye-candy”. Ekta’s words came true, Aasiya and Ronit are still remembered as one of the best onscreen jodi. After Bandini went off air, loyal fans started demanding for the show to comeback with season two.

Aasiya reacts on this and said, “From people around me and from the networking sites I get messages that they want season two. Bandini ran for 2 years and 1 month, whole cast and crew is truly like one big joint family. I hope Bandini come back with season two. If not then I wish I get opportunity to work with the same people. I still miss Bandini, even my display picture on my blackberry and on my networking profile are from Bandini. The show is special to be, before Bandini I was part of crowd, people rush past me, pushed me. But after Bandini I am recognized in the crowd, people turn around and look at me. I feel overwhelmed when our fans cal us ROSIYA(Ronit+aAsiya) or SANRAJ(Santo+Dharamraj). People give us love, appreciation in return of our hard work in Bandini.”

When asked why she put behind the sacrificing nature that was in the blood of Santo and did a negative character in Matti Ki Banno, she replied “After Bandini went off air I got offer from 2-3 reality shows but I couldn’t go for it as I already signed Matti Ki Banno. I got offer from one reality show which I wanted to do desperately, may be next year I will try to do that show. I also wanted to do dance reality show, I think I can dance also. I was a dance student of Shiamak Davar; and have completed my course. I am ready to play with worms and perform deadly stunts. By portraying Saudamini in Matti Ki Banno, I learnt to perform stunts. It was not a negative character, but yes it has some negative shades. Saudamini was madly in love with her husband Vikram, it was completely obsessed type character. She forces her husband to love her.”

Aasiya neither resemble Santo nor Saudamini, Aasiya is short tempered and talkative, she can’t keep quiet for more time where as Santo is very quite. The sweet looking actor is exactly opposite of Saudamini, and believes we can't force someone to love you. “You should understand your partner & vice-versa. If by hook or by crook you get the love from someone then it will very soon vanish. Love means sacrifice not forcing anybody to love you. Saudamini set rules in relationship and I don’t. I deem that understanding is much more required in a relationship,” she quips.

She used to take books on the sets, initially she managed to I get time to study and act, but then she quits her studies after 12th as it’s not possible to manage study and acting at the same time due to hectic schedule. As now Matti Ki Banno is over, the actor is planning to wait for some time. If she gets an offer for another show then she will do it, else she will continue her studies.

The actor said marriage is not on the cards, she want to concentrate on her career. “I want to prove myself as an actor then I will think about marriage. I wish I get a new show soon and continue entertaining my fans like I did in Bandini and Matti Ki Banno.”
